During the visit, H.E. Mrs Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch met with local officials and government figures. Among these was His Excellency Sultan Saeed Al Mansouri, UAE Minister of Economy, H.E. Mohamed Meer Abdulla Yousif Al Raeesi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and senior officials from the Federal Customs Authority. These meetings came in the context of an official mission undertaken by the State Secretary and her delegation to the GCC region where they met officials in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman in order to discuss the economic ties that bind the GCC countries and Switzerland as well as the enhancement of these through the implementation of the GCC-EFTA Free Trade Agreement (FTA). This FTA was set for implementation in July 2014, but has encountered difficulties regarding the technical processes required for its implementation.
Mrs. Ineichen-Fleisch’s trip was concluded with a farewell evening for the Swiss-born solar airplane, Solar Impulse – a Swiss Embassy reception held in the Solar Impulse hangar at Al Bateen Executive Airport. Prior to their departure, the head of the Swiss delegation also officially opened the new premises of the Embassy of Switzerland and unveiled the ceremonial plaque to mark this occasion together with His Excellency Badr Abdullah Saeed Al Matrooshi, Director of European Affairs Department at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
