The event brought together around 50 skateboarders, mostly teenagers between 12 and 18 years old, and about 80 spectators. The launch was followed by a tour across the country from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar, passing through Arusha and Dodoma Regions. Dodoma and Arusha already have a skatepark each since 2011 and 2020 respectively. In Zanzibar, the team linked up with another organization, Move Zanzibar, which uses sports and arts to educate and motivate children on the island. The tour was also an occasion to make a short film on skateboarding in Tanzania. The movie will be used to reach broader audiences and hopefully help the organization to find additional revenue sources for its future activities, including building of a skatepark in Dar es Salaam.
The skateboarding scene in the country is still young and not yet developed. The Tanzania Skateboarding organization aims to see it flourish in the next few years. The sport, which made its Olympic debut in 2020, is great for socializing as well as physical and mental training for young people.
