2023 Chiayi International Art Doc Film Festival, in celebration of its 10th anniversary, is curated by veteran Taiwanese documentary filmmaker, Ming-chuan Huang. Huang has a unique eye on selections of films, with a particular interest in topics about marginalized communities, minority and inequity issues.
Following last year's Swiss Focus entitled "Swiss Art at Height", the Festival has chosen to screen two Swiss films this year-
L'état de nécessité (State of Necessity) by Stéphane Goël. A film that goes behind the scenes of two court cases involving activists in the fight against climate change in Switzerland. An intimate, powerful, sometimes funny and moving journey that follows the protagonists in lawyers' offices and courtrooms' corridors. Cri de l’âme (Scream of the Soul) by Dominique Othenin-Girard. The film follows painter Joe Boehler, a former soldier, boxer and self-taught artist, on the eve of his new exhibition. Viewers accompany Boehler on his journey of self-discovery, allowing a new generation of art lovers to discover how great artists transform trauma into something beautiful and meaningful. - excerpt published by Impromptu Productions
Dominique Othenin-Girard will appear in a Q&A, following the first screening of his film on Sunday, 12th March at 11:30am (Screening Hall of Chiayi Municipal Museum).
