The Eighth National Forum on the Rule of Law

The Government of Switzerland supported the Eighth National Forum on the Rule of Law held in Dushanbe on 4 November 2022.

The forum have been held annually since 2015 at the initiative of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Tajikistan in close collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme and with financial support from the Swiss Government.

The Rule of Law Forum is a platform for national dialogue between lawyers, legal scholars, civil society and various specialists on acute legal policy and practical issues. The purpose of the Forum is to identify challenges hindering the implementation of adopted legal frameworks that are most relevant for the country, to jointly search for solutions through the exchange of experience, as well as to develop specific recommendations in order to improve Tajik legal system and ensure the protection of people’s rights.

The event hosted by the Ministry of Justice was attended by the representatives from the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Parliament members, heads and representatives of the ministries, as well as NGO members, international organizations based in Tajikistan, independent experts and development partners.

“Nowadays, we are witnessing phenomenal historical processes, which require our immediate reaction and the adequate mitigating measures. Such an adaptation and measures will improve our stability and capacities in all spheres. In this situation, the Government has to adapt its response to the people’s needs.”- noted Ms. Salome Steib, Director of the Swiss Cooperation office in Tajikistan.

As a result of the discussion at the end of the Forum, the declaration with a set of recommendations was adopted, which will be disseminated for consideration and implementation to the relevant authorities.
