World-renowned theatre-label Rimini Protokoll was founded in 2000 by Swiss theatre director Stefan Kaegi together with his colleagues Helgard Haug and Daniel Wetzel. Work by work they have expanded the means of the theatre to create new perspectives on reality.
Rimini Protokoll often develop their works in cooperation with experts who have gained their knowledge and skills beyond the theatre framework. Transposing rooms or social structures into theatrical formats are a specific feature they enjoy. For instance, “100% City” is a worldwide ever newly contextualizing work they have created where 100 statistically chosen inhabitants of a city gather on a theatre stage. Since 2008 when it was premiered, 36 cities worldwide have featured in this show.
Kaohsiung will be the first city in Taiwan to feature in the 100% City series. The casting of the one hundred inhabitants began with one member who had to recruit another in 24 hours, who then recruited another and so on – all according to specific criteria of age, gender, household type, geography, language and population group mirroring the demographic of Kaohsiung. Each of them will speak for himself or herself: about their lives, their joys and their sorrows.
