The delegations discussed the current situation in the field of migration and exchanged information on the implementation of Swiss-supported projects. On the second day, the Serbian delegation visited a federal asylum center in Boudry and learned about the Swiss asylum system. The Serbian delegation consisted of the representatives of the Serbian Commissariat for Refugees and Migration, and the Ministry of Labor. Switzerland was represented by the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), the Federal Department for Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
Thus far, within the Migration partnership, Switzerland has supported the migration management system in Serbia with 21 million CHF for more than 20 projects. Within the current Swiss Migration Strategic Framework for the Western Balkans 2020-2023 two new projects have been launched in Serbia. One is strengthening the institutional response to the needs of vulnerable migrants and is implemented by IOM in partnership with the Serbian Commissariat for Refugees and Migration, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Labor. The second one is focused on cultural mediation in asylum centers and is implemented by the Serbian NGO Crises Response and Policy Center. In addition, Switzerland supports the on-going Regional Housing Programme which is offering durable housing solutions for refugees from the former Yugoslavia, and the Making Migration Work for Sustainable Development project that looks into the benefits migration can bring to country’s development.
