Swiss Cooperation Strategy handed over to the Serbian Prime Minister Brnabic

Deputy State Secretary at the Swiss Foreign Affairs, Kristina Marty Lang, handed over the new Swiss Cooperation Strategy for the period 2018-2021 to the Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic.

Mrs. Kristina Marty Lang, Deputy State Secretary at the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs met Mrs. Ana Brnabić, Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia on Tuesday, March 6th. During the meeting Mrs. Marthy handed over to the Prime Minister the Swiss Cooperation Strategy with Serbia for the period 2018-2021.

This document defines fields and models of bilateral support in the amount of 95 million euros, which will be distributed by the Swiss Cooperation Office, part of the Embassy of Switzerland in Serbia, to various program and project activities within the next four years. 

Prime Minister Brnabić noted that Swiss support during the previous period contributed to the economic development and improvement of the state administration. Ms. Marthy pointed out that the Republic of Serbia has achieved good results in the implementation of reforms, but emphasized the necessity for further economic strengthening and improvement of the legal framework for achieving better business and living environment.

Switzerland will continue to support Serbia in three major fields: governance, economic development and employment, as well as ​​sustainable energy and resilient cities. Special attention during the implementation of the Strategy will be dedicated to gender
equality, inclusion of vulnerable groups in sustainable economic and social development,
migration management, good governance and fight against corruption. 

During the meeting, the two officials discussed the visit of the President of the Swiss Confederation Alain Berset to the Republic of Serbia, which is announced from June 5-6th this year. The announced visit was assessed as an opportunity for further improvement of the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
