April 29th, 2015, the day when the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) accomplished yet another milestone by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA).
The SDC Director of Cooperation, Mr. Matthias Weingart, and the Additional Chief Secretary of FATA, Mr. Muhammad Aslam Khan signed the MoU at FATA Secretariat, Peshawar.
The MoU, which will be valid up to December 31st, 2019, warrants bilateral cooperation between the FATA Secretariat and the SDC Pakistan. It ensures the FATA Secretariat’s support to the SDC funded projects that have been on-going in FATA, and will govern their mutual relationship to achieve the desired goals / objectives.
The SDC has been funding a number of projects in the politically, socially and economically deprived areas of FATA. The main interventions target livelihood development, poverty alleviation, development of social inclusion and promotion of peace and development by raising awareness and empowering local communities about their rights and responsibilities.
The signatories to the MoU acknowledge that the neglected areas of FATA are in urgent need of socio-economic development. They need sustainable development which is crucial for improving the living standards of the local residents, and hence, ensuring their peaceful coexistence. To achieve these objectives, both signatories have agreed to join hands for exchanging technical assistance and cooperation.
