With a view to best consolidate SDC’s past experience, the objective is to support the KP province to develop an Integrated Water Resource Management Policy.  After more than 50 years experiences, the SDC enjoys the trust of the authorities to facilitate a comprehensive policy framework encompassing all relevant line departments. For this purpose, reliable and relevant water data needs to be collected and major gaps and challenges addressed by a comprehensive policy framework with a strengthened coordination ability. Through an evidence based policy development, implementation of water related projects will be improved and finally the satisfaction of the people enhanced. The second line of activity in this theme is to strengthen the water, sanitation and waste facilities in Peshawar and Mardan in order that they increase client satisfaction, especially among the most disadvantage people.

In 2018, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government started to elaborate a new Integrated Water Resource Management strategy, with key support provided by SDC. This is a great opportunity to institutionalize participatory organizational set-ups, like the water-user associations and the water-user management plans successfully piloted throughout different districts in the same province. Thanks to enhanced capacity of local partners in KP in the water sector, service delivery of public utility companies improved.
