Pakistan is prone to natural disasters. It is also among the top ten countries most affected by climate change. After largescale natural disasters in 2005 and 2010, the country established it own disaster management agencies at federal and provincial levels. These agencies need to be further strengthened and supported to enable them to cope with disasters better. The SDC is strongly involved in this process and has been among the first donors to support the new Natural Disaster Risk Management Fund. During the phasing out, consolidation and institutionalization of the community-based disaster risk reduction will be among the core focus of the programme.
