Now in its third year, the crisis in Syria has evolved into a complex humanitarian situation marked by increasing internal displacement, destruction of infrastructure, economic decline, a growing crisis in food security and reduction of agricultural production as well as risks of outbreaks of communicable and water-borne diseases. Further, the influx of Syrian refugees into Jordan has surpassed previous projections of the United Nations. To date, there are more than 500’000 Syrian refugees registered with UNHCR in Jordan. Syrian refugees arrive in urban, rural or camp settings with very limited means and face difficulties in meeting their basic needs, which is further worsened by the oncoming winter.

To alleviate the suffering of internally displaced persons in Syria as well as Syrian refugees in Jordan by improving their living conditions and access to basic needs.

Syria: 33,495 IDPs (6,699 families) out of the main target group of 257,650 families identified by UNHCR selection criteria. Jordan: 304,000 vulnerable persons (69,000 families) in urban areas as well as refugee and host communities in Ramtha, Tafileh, Irbid, Mafraq and Zarqa

To alleviate the suffering and preserve the dignity of vulnerable internally displaced persons (IDPs) through immediate shelter and basic domestic needs in Syria (1). To ensure the basic household needs for extremely vulnerable Syrians living in urban and rural areas across Jordan (2). To respond to the needs of Syrians and vulnerable host communities with an emphasis on women and children through provision of social, psycho-social and economic support and contribute to preserving positive relations between refugee and host community populations in Jordan (3).
