Nine startups from Switzerland participated at Swisstech at BioJapan 2022 – Innovation in Life Science & Healthcare pitch event at CIC Tokyo on October 11. The companies showcased their state-of-the-art products and services in the fields of life science and healthcare to an audience of roughly 40 in-person and 100 remote participants from government, industry and academia despite competition from multiple events on the eve of the world’s oldest biotechnology exhibition BioJapan.

After the opening by the moderator, Ayano Kagami of CIC Tokyo, and welcome remarks given by Kyoko Marumo Suzuki, Head of the Science & Technology Office Tokyo, each startup gave 4-minute presentations. The pitches were followed by questions and comments by experts including venture capitalists, namely Dr. Tomoyoshi Koyanagi (Kyoto University), Ms. Azusa Shiohara (UTEC) and Dr. Akifumi Morinaka (JAFCO). After the pitch session, the in-person participants joined a networking reception together with the Swiss startups’ representatives and experts.

The event was held in a hybrid setting in English with simultaneous Japanese translation and organized by the Embassy of Switzerland (Science & Technology Office Tokyo and Communication and Culture Section) in collaboration with the Swiss Biotech Pavilion at the BioJapan 2022 exhibition and Swissnex in Japan. Branded under Swisstech–a campaign to promote Switzerland as a leading high-tech nation–the event was part of the Embassy’s new Vitality.Swiss public diplomacy program on the road to EXPO 2025 Osaka – Kansai, which was presented at the event by Jonas Pulver, Head of the Embassy’s Communication and Culture Section.

Most of the presenters joined the Swiss Pavilion at BioJapan 2022 (October 12-14, 2022) and then a roadshow in the Kansai area organized by the Innosuisse Internationalisation Camp at Swissnex in Japan.
