After Oyamazaki Town, Fukushima City, Oita City, and Fuji City, the Secretariat of the Headquarters for the Promotion of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games announced on February 28 that Tsukuba City is officially teaming up with Switzerland for the 2020 Host Town Initiative.

From next month, three Swiss teams (judo, track, and gymnastics) will set up their pre-Olympic Games training camps in Tsukuba City. To celebrate the new partnership, a "Swiss Welcome Fair" will be held on the premise of the Univesity of Tsukuba where many events, including a talk show featuring Olympic medalists who belong to University of Tsukuba, a Paralympic sports trial session, and a Swiss quiz rally, are awaiting you!

Date: Saturday, March 16, 2019, 11:00 - 13:00
Venue: Sakura Terrace, Kasumi Tsukuba University store, Saza Coffee University of Tsukuba Aliança store (3-1-10 Amakubo, Tsukuba, Ibaraki)
* Swiss athletes will not be present at this time.

The Host Town Initiative was designed by the Japanese government to promote educational and sports exchanges between the population, foreign countries and visiting Olympic teams before and during the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. Showcases, lectures and workshops will be held all across Japan, providing athletes, Japanese people living outside Tokyo and foreigners in general with the opportunity to create and cultivate friendship ties that will outlast 2020.
