CAFe Budapest - Nik Bärtsch's Mobile Extended in BMC

Tuesday, 11.10.2016 – Tuesday, 11.10.2016

Nik Bärtsch's MOBILE

Swiss composer and pianist Nik Bärtsch recorded his latest album in 2015, at ECM. For the duration of a few songs, his acoustic group was joined by a string quintet. Founded in 1997, Mobile owns a musical world that draws on jazz, funk, contemporary, minimalist, ritual and sacred music, and an attitude that is strongly related to traditional Japanese culture. They are going after the greatest possible effect with as little means as possible.

As a composer with a penchant for special rhythms, Bärtsch’s path diverges from the repetitive music of Terry Riley, Steve Reich or Philip Glass, and shares more with the complex musical textures of Stravinsky or György Ligeti. His most recent project for instance was inspired by the 1968 Continuum, Ligeti’s piece for the harpsichord.
