New Swiss ambassadors

Additional personnel changes will take place at several Swiss representations and at the head office of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), as part of the periodic transfer rotation and on the basis of appointments made by the Federal Council at its meeting on 4 June 2021. The appointment of heads of mission abroad becomes effective following approval by the respective host state.

Yvonne Baumann, currently head of mission in Bogotá, will become the new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Arab Republic of Egypt, based in Cairo.

Benedikt Wechsler, currently consul general in San Francisco, has had the title of ambassador conferred on him for his new function as head of the Digitalisation Division at the FDFA's State Secretariat in Bern.

Pierre von Arx, until recently head of the OSCE mission to Kyrgyzstan, has had the title of ambassador conferred on him for his new function as project coordinator in Uzbekistan with the rank of OSCE head of mission, based in Tashkent.

Stephan Lauper, currently a diplomatic officer at the Swiss mission to the EU in Brussels, has had the title of ambassador conferred on him for his new function as deputy head of division and head of EU coordination at the FDFA State Secretariat in Bern.
