OCHA Ethiopia, Humanitarian Response Fund (HRF)

Project completed

HRF is widely recognized as the best performing of all Emergency Response Funds (ERF), as a flexible and rapid mechanism for non-food emergency humanitarian response (but includes nutrition) in Ethiopia. Since the inception of HRF in 2006, Switzerland is considered as one of its regular donors.

Results

Results from previous phases:

The HRF has allocated more than US$ 52 million in 2011 in emergency assistance, addressing sectoral needs in major emergencies, stemming from hazards such as drought, floods and disease outbreaks, including complex emergencies such as displacement consequences. In order to address the most pressing cross-sectoral needs, the HRF has focused particular attention on emergency health, nutrition, water, sanitation, non-food items, and agriculture and livestock interventions, but also protection services (lOPs, stranded migrants). During the 1"1 semester 2012, HRF has already allocated more than US$ 26 million in response to priority sectoral and emergency gaps in nutrition, seeds and WASH. Unlike in 2011 and previous years, the HRF has little funds available after responding to the consequences of the crisis in 2011.
