Exhibition

at the Book Fair

“Travel” is the theme of this year’s Book Fair. Traveling echoes with reading as both activities broaden our horizons. However, one can hardly travel to every corner of the world. Reading, on the other hand, allows us to connect to different places from Africa to Antarctica while we comfortably relax ourselves at home. Through the stories told by travel writers, our senses follow them across oceans and continents without going through the hectic and exhausting process of actually traveling.

Which adjectives would you use to describe the landscapes of Switzerland? Probably magnificent, beautiful, amazing, clear… There is no doubt about the captivating natural beauty of the Swiss country, celebrated by travelers from all over the world.

But there is more to discover about Switzerland beyond its terrain. Its cultural landscape is equally interesting if you care to find out. Come to our Consulate’s booth at the Book Fair (19 – 25 July 2017), located at Hall 1A – A11. Also, we are honored to have on display drawings of Switzerland by local radio host and columnist Mr. Chip Tsao (陶傑先生), made during his trip to the Alpine country in 2016.

At the same time, we are promoting three great books about Switzerland.

"The Most Perfect Tour of Switzerland 2" 《最完美的瑞士之旅2》 is penned by Jackman and Erica, supplemented by their own hand-drawn pictures. The couple are experienced travelers, whereas Switzerland is their favorite destination, as they recall a conversation with their friends, “‘How is it like in Heaven on Earth?’ ‘Beautiful, very beautiful.’ ‘How beautiful?’ ‘It’s too abstract that it’s hard to describe.’” The two passionately state, “If you have not been to Switzerland, you will not know what it means by Heaven on Earth. When you are amidst the lakes and the mountains, gazing into the crystal clear water and the snow-capped summits, the brain automatically returns ‘Heaven on Earth’ to your search of words.”

Jackman and Erica will be holding a book presentation session on 22 July 2017 from 3:30 to 4:15 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.

"Legends from the Swiss Alps", edited by Prof. Leung Ping-kwan and Andrea Rienschnitter, features a collection of legends and folklore from the Swiss Alpine region. Compiled by Swiss students of Chinese at the University of Zurich as a pendant to their study of the ghost world in modern Chinese films, the seventy-five legends published in this collection entertainingly reveal the fascinating co-existence of the real and the imaginary in the Swiss Alpine world.

"Foodscape", edited by Margrit Manz and Martin Zeller, is a collection of texts and photographs created during an intercultural encounter with history and culture of food on a 14-day literary & artistic exchange trip between Swiss authors and artists experiences in China, and vice versa, Chinese authors visiting Switzerland.

Come and visit us during the exhibition period. Our booth will be situated at the “International Cultural Village” on 1/F, number 1A-A11.
