“Women Empowerment Principles” signing ceremony

11 private Armenian companies signed a joint statement on the Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs) established by the UN, on July 6, 2021, at the Best Western Plus Congress Hotel. Started in 2010 as a joint initiative of UN Women and UN Global Compact, the WEPs initiative aims to promote the empowerment of women and girls in the community, business and the workplace.

WEPs signatory companies are; Dom-Daniel Company, Armenian Securities Exchange Company (AMX), HSBC Bank Armenia, IBIS Yerevan Hotel, Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company Armenia, Margaryan Business Group, Marriott Yerevan Hotel, McCann Yerevan, Siemens Industry Software, Synergy International Systems, C-Quadrat Ampega Asset Management Armenia.

Representatives of the government, the diplomatic and business communities, international organizations, civil society, as well as experts took part in the WEPs signing organized by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Armenia Office. Ambassador Stefano Lazzarotto, and National Program Officer Sergey Hovhannisyan represented the Swiss Embassy.  

The event was organized within the framework of the "Women Economic Empowerment in the South Caucasus" project, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC and the Austrian Development Agency ADA.

Active since August 2018, the regional "Women Economic Empowerment in the South Caucasus" program aims to support particularly poor and socially excluded women of the South Caucasus to become economically empowered and participate in relevant decision-making processes. The project is implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Armenia Office and UN Women in Georgia.
