New Swiss ambassadors

There will be/have been some changes of personnel in the Swiss representations abroad and at the head office of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in Bern. The appointments have been made on the basis of Federal Council decisions at the usual interval for the transfer of personnel. The appointments of heads of missions abroad will take effect as soon as the authorities of the host country have given their approval.

Mr Marc Pierre George, currently the first secretary to the head of mission in Islamabad, has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, resident in Islamabad. Mr George is to replace Ambassador Christoph Bubb.

Mr Christoph Graf, currently ad interim head of global cooperation at the SDC within the FDFA in Bern, has been appointed ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Albania. Mr Graf is to replace Ambassador Alexander Wittwer.

Mr Stephan Husy, formerly ambassador and director of the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining, is to receive the title of ambassador in the exercise of his new function within the Directorate of International Law in Bern as special envoy for combating terrorism. Mr Husy took up his post at the beginning of March 2014.

Mr Stefano Toscano, formerly the first secretary to the head of mission in Cairo, has been appointed Director of the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining. He has been accorded the title of ambassador in the exercise of his new function. Mr Toscano took up his post at the end of January 2014, replacing Ambassador Stephan Husy.
