SDG Open Working Group ‘Focus Area Document’

The Open Working Group (OWG) on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has concluded its eight information-collection sessions during which they discussed a great number of topics in order to frame the successors of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). The Co-Chairs of the OWG have now released a ‘focus area document’ that sets out 19 broad issues for consideration where they feel that further action could help the international community realise transformative change for sustainable development. Based on this document, the Co-Chairs ask UN member states to begin identifying SDGs and accompanying targets at the 9th session of the OWG, taking place from 3-5 March 2014. The document is prefaced by a letter that provides further detail on the process and emphasises that the focus areas identified are not exhaustive, and that the document does not preclude inclusion of other issues discussed within the context of the OWG thematic clusters that may not have been captured.

Open consultation from Monday 24 February to Friday 14 March 2014

Now that this focus area document is published, the OWG would like to hear your thoughts and encourage you to submit your comments answering the following questions:

  1. Regarding the 'focus areas document' overall: What do you agree with and what is missing?
  2. Per specific focus area, what do you agree with and how would you improve it?

This is your chance to make your voice heard. Submissions to this open online conversation will be aggregated and shared with the members of the OWG, in which Switzerland is actively engaged.
