57 Ambassadors in New York sign letter calling for a Sustainable Development Goal on Water and Sanitation

On the occasion of World Water Day on 22 March 2014, 57 Permanent Representatives to the United Nations in New York coming from all continents expressed their commitment to a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) on Water and Sanitation and encouraged all other Permanent Representatives to support the elaboration and adoption of such SDG.

Water and its sustainable management are essential for human health and well-being, poverty eradication, food and energy production, for protecting and maintaining healthy ecosystems and for disaster risk reduction. The letter is a joint-initiative of Finland, Thailand, Tajikistan and Switzerland.
